Going to School in Buenos Aires

Sharing through ESL
On Day Two, we jumped right into action.  We had breakfast at pastor Samuel's house -- gallo pinto (and I forgot to take a photo). Then we piled into the van/bus and headed for school.  That's right, we're in Costa Rica going to school.  We are allowed to share the gospel, but only through bringing in other helpful  instruction.  So our kids were told not to speak Spanish, and they were used to lead various classes in English-language practice. We played games, we conducted surveys (like conversational interviews), we played more games, we showed photos of our families to invite conversation and practice.

We then shared an evangelistic mime that shares the strength and rescue of trusting in the Lord.  We had two groups doing all this at the same time in two different locations. So we worked with seventh through tenth graders (best I was informed). In the one group, afterwards, Rachel Griffith (with Kevin Salley as translator) shared the story behind the drama, and then Kevin shared the gospel.

Then our students divided the Costa Rican students into small groups and shared all together a gospel tract that is in Spanish.  This lead to conversation and prayer--sometimes in small groups, sometimes as a class together.  Each group did a total of three sessions--each one lasting about one-and-a-half hours.

Overall the LCA kids are worn out (lack of sleep), but jumping up at every opportunity to work.  Very impressive. And when we arrived at devotions in the evening, their minds were still full of positive ideas and sharing.  We so appreciate each and every team member.
